Lost, the words they said
This visualization represents the words used by each character of the popular tv show Lost. The size of the words are proportional to the number of times the character used it. The word position and the distance to the character are mostly random.
I don’t like remakes. I prefer to waste my time in new ideas. But I’m going to do an exception with this post. First because when I did it, the show wasn’t end so It was unfinished… somehow. And second because I think that Lost deserve it. I know Lost end received a lot of critiques (I share some of them) but I really enjoyed all the time I spend watching Jack, Ben and Locke making the rounds.
In addition to adding the final season information, I have taken the opportunity to improve the visualization. Remember I know the words each character said, exactly, thanks to the scripts hosted in lostpedia.wikia.com.

The Secret of Jules Verne
He was the pioneer of science-fiction genre, one of the most translated author of all time and certainly a source of inspiration for all of us. Verne did accurate anticipations of modern times and wrote about submarines and space travel before they were invented.

I took more than 25 of his books and count all the words. The book list:

When I read the list it immediately remind me the tv show LOST. I did a quick search and found this link that talks about similarities between “Lost” and the Jules Verne novel “The Mysterious Island”, quite funny.

As experiment I changed my algorithm in order to spread images instead of words, just for fun…
As seed image I took the portrait of one of my favorites Lost characters, the clever Benjamin Linus. For the spread I selected a little portrait of the ‘others’ characters. There is more than 15.000 of this little faces in the full image.
Look at it more closely.
I know there is a lot of image mosaic creators, but I have more control using my own application and also it let me try to explore different creative ways for this kind of images…
